Earthquakes reported near Sagle
SAGLE — If you felt something rattle or roll late Wednesday evening, you'd be correct if you guessed there was an earthquake in the area.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a pair of earthquakes were recorded in the Sagle area. A 2.6 magnitude quake was recorded at 10:05 p.m. Wednesday about 0.04 miles from Sagle and 6.84 miles south-southwest of East Hope — the location listed on the USGS website — and at a depth of roughly 6 miles below the surface. A second temblor was recorded in roughly the same location 13 minutes later; also 2.6 magnitude but closer to the surface at 2.55 miles below the surface.
At least one Sagle area resident reported feeling both earthquakes, saying that the first quake shook his house to the point where he and his wife initially thought a tree had fallen on their home.
"We jumped out of bed and went to investigate," Don Moore said. "Finding no sign of a tree we thought right away that it had been an earthquake."
While the couple felt the second earthquake as well, they said it didn't feel as strong as the first one.
"We've lived in Garfield Bay for 50 years and only had this happen when we were home and could feel it, one other time," Moore said.
