Leave medical diagnoses, advice to the professionals
In response to Steve Blaska’s letter (Daily Bee, Jan. 21, 2025), which was overly simplistic and devoid of the understanding of biology. If only it were that simple, Steve.
There are multiple types of DSD that develop during gestation as well as during growth and through puberty. It’s not as simple as “sex is binary.”
There are congenital conditions in which development of chromosomal, gonadal, or anatomic sex is atypical, differences or disorders of sex development, including intersex. These can occur through developmental, as mentioned above, from gestation through young adulthood. Not just “born with” but developing throughout young adulthood. It is a very difficult and intrusive process.
For people to “assign” what they assume without actual medical knowledge or diagnosis just shows why assumptions are just that. Not facts, just assumptions about something they don’t understand.
Please don’t give medical advice or opinions without actual medical training. It’s irresponsible and harmful. Leave people to their own personal experiences and their bodies to them and their medical professionals. This isn’t football, where you can Monday-morning quarterback from your couch. This is about actual people and their lives, health, and mental wellbeing. And why you even care is concerning. Why are people so interested in others’ biological issues? What happened to just mind your own business and respect others privacy? Just stay out of others medical issues and challenges. It’s that simple.
