BCSO seeks approval for app
SANDPOINT — The Bonner County Sheriff's Office is going mobile as the department is seeking approval for funds to create and build an app to help it connect to the community and provide a secure place to share information and tips.
Bonner County Sheriff Daryl Wheeler is seeking approval from the Bonner County Board of County Commissioners on the Idaho Sheriff Connect agreement for $8,647.25.
If approved, the agreement would cover the cost to build and maintain the mobile app. If approved, the cost would be split between the sheriff's office, Bonner County Jail, Marine Division and Bonner Dispatch.
Bonner County Road and Bridge is seeking approval of a state and local agreement for a federal aid bridge grant to repair the Merritt Bridge over the Pend Oreille River in the city of Priest River. Located in the Wisconsin Street area, the Merritt Bridge is the county's longest bridge and rehabilitation of its steel pilings are needed to address corrosion and prevent the substructure from degrading any further.
The agreement, which would commit the county to accept the award and begin project design, requires a $10,000 initial match payment, according to documentation included in the BOCC draft board packet.
Construction is expected to take place in the 2028-'29 fiscal year. Bonner County is required to pay 7.34% cash match on project costs with the total match estimated at $268,644. The total project is expected to cost $3.66 million.
As part of the consent agenda, the commission is slated to approve purchase of a radar and sonar unit for the Bonner County Sheriff's Office's Marine Division. The BCSO has the funds to cover the $5,346.20 cost in its budget, according to documentation included in the draft board packet, and the item would help improve the division's ability to operate its boats safely.
Also included in the consent agenda is approval of a minor land division plat for the RK Ranch, which would split an 11.55-acre parcel into two lots, one a 6.55-acre lot and the other a 5-acre lot.
Bonner County Planning officials are slated to seek approval from the board to appoint a county surveyor as required under Idaho Code. Both Glahe & Associates and Highland Surveying are being proposed for the contract.
"Historically, the county has appointed two surveyors to ensure adequate coverage and expertise in managing surveying needs," Planning officials wrote in draft documents presented to the BOCC.
The Planning Department is also slated to seek approval for the final plat of the Bahia del Sol, which would subdivide two properties, totaling 15.71 acres, into nine lots ranging in size from 18,914 square feet to 6.76 acres. The suburban zone is located in the Laclede area.
A handful of items are being brought to the commission by the Airports Department, including work orders and the purchase of several parcels of land related to the removal of trees inside the Sandpoint Airport's runway protection zone and approach surfaces,
Also being brought to the BOCC by the Airports manager Dave Schuck is a work order related to the design and construction of a taxi-lane at the Priest River Airport.
Bonner County Clerk Mike Rosedale is asking the commission to approve batch claims totaling $325,044.87, as well as approval of a $5,000 one-time award increase from the Idaho Department of Commerce to the Pend Oreille Economic Partnership. The Auditor's office helps the economic development group facility the grant, which aids businesses in the county.
The BOCC is also being asked to approve a May 24 parade during the Priest Lake Spring Festival by the Coolin Civic Organization. In addition to the parade, the festival includes a craft fair, quilt display, bake sale and run events.
