Living with a heavenly perspective

| February 21, 2025 1:00 AM

As Christians, one of the most transformative truths we can embrace is that we are seated in heaven with Christ. This concept, rooted in Scripture, has profound implications for our daily lives. Here’s how understanding our heavenly position can change our perspective and actions.

The Apostle Paul writes in Ephesians 2:6, "And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus." This verse reveals that our spiritual position is one of authority and intimacy with Christ. Being seated with Him signifies that we share in His victory and reign. It’s a position of rest, power, and identity.

Understanding that we are seated in heaven changes how we face challenges. Colossians 3:1-2 encourages us, "Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things." This heavenly perspective helps us see beyond our immediate circumstances and recognize that we are more than conquerors through Christ (Romans 8:37). We can approach life's difficulties with confidence, knowing that we operate from a place of victory.

Being seated with Christ also means we have been given authority. Jesus said in Matthew 28:18, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me." As His followers, we share in this authority. Luke 10:19 further emphasizes this: "I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you." This authority empowers us to pray boldly, resist the enemy, and bring God's unseen kingdom to earth.

Our heavenly position shapes our identity and we should embrace it. Ephesians 1:3 states, "Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ." Knowing that we are blessed and chosen by God gives us a sense of purpose and worth. We are not defined by our past mistakes or current struggles but by our identity in Christ.

Finally, being seated in heaven shifts our focus to eternal values. 2 Corinthians 4:18 reminds us, "So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal." This eternal perspective helps us prioritize our lives according to God's purposes. We become more focused on loving others, sharing the gospel, and living in a way that honors God.

Understanding that we are seated in heaven with Christ transforms our daily lives. It gives us a perspective of victory, authority, identity, and eternal purpose. As we embrace this truth, we can live confidently and boldly, knowing that we are empowered by our heavenly position. Let us continually set our hearts and minds on things above, living out our faith with the assurance that we are seated with Christ in heavenly places.
