Idaho encourages science camp applications

BOISE — The Idaho Department of Education is encouraging high school juniors and seniors to apply for a spot at a prestigious science camp in West Virginia’s Monongahela National Forest this summer.

Two students from each U.S. state will attend the July 10-Aug. 2 National Youth Science Camp, where they will engage in seminars, lectures, challenges and an outdoor adventure program centered on science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM).

Participants will also travel to Washington D.C., where they will have a chance to meet representatives, tour museums and more.

“As opportunities in STEAM-industry careers continue to grow in Idaho and nationwide, this program gives Idaho students the chance to explore their futures in these promising fields,” said Superintendent of Public Instruction Debbie Critchfield in a Feb. 19 press release. “I encourage high-performing high school juniors and seniors looking for a way to add to their resume while gaining hands-on STEAM experience to apply for this year’s opportunity.”

Idaho’s delegates will attend the camp at no cost. To be considered, submit materials at apply.nyscamp.org. Applications are due Feb. 28.
