Snowboarder reported missing, dies
SANDPOINT — A California man has died after being reported missing at Schweitzer early Monday afternoon.
Schweitzer officials said the 72-year-old male was reported missing near the advanced Detention run, located in the Outback Bowl, the back side of the resort, at about 12:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 30. Schweitzer Ski Patrol immediately responded and located the missing Laguna Beach, Calif., man with the help of another guest skiing in the area, Taylor Prather, Schweitzer public information officer, told the Daily Bee.
The unresponsive snowboarder was transported to the base of the resort where he was pronounced deceased by Robert Beers, Bonner County coroner.
The snowboarder’s name and cause of death have not been released. Beers could not be reached for additional comment due to the holiday.
Schweitzer officials extended their deepest condolences to the guest's family and friends in the wake of the tragic incident.
