Solange Bloom, 91

| January 3, 2025 1:00 AM

Solange Jacqueline Frechette Bloom, 91, passed away Saturday, Dec. 21, 2024, in Sandpoint, Idaho.

Memorial Mass will be held at 9 a.m. Friday, Jan. 3, 2025, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with Father Rob Cook officiating.

She was a fiercely independent and capable woman, as all who knew her would agree. She came by this naturally, as the fourth child born to a family of 13 on Oct. 18, 1933. At a young age, she was given caregiver duties over a younger sibling. At the age of thirteen, she and her younger sister, Raymonde, left their homes to financially support their families. As noted by her continued sacrifices, family was everything to Solange. This didn’t change when she started her own with Richard Bloom on July 26, 1957.

The family would grow to include daughter Joan, son-in-law Michael and their children Paul, Lynn and Beth. She is also survived by (surrogate daughter) Wendy, sisters Cécile, Monique, Raymonde, Louisette, Gaétane, Nicole and brother Bertrand and their families.

She enjoyed being in the kitchen and was an excellent cook. She kept a spotless house and helped at school and church.

Solange developed a great love of dogs as she aged, initially quite wary of the animals. In Solange’s final weeks, her two loyal stuffed animals were with her constantly. They were tended and loved with the same conviction as everyone else in her life.

Solange was extremely caring, deeply warm, and tried her hardest to make life better and easier for everyone she came into contact with. She was quick with a hug, quick to tell people they were loved. We will miss her terribly, and we are grateful she is now at peace. She lives on in our hearts, memories, and stories. Thank you Solange, Mom, Grandma, sister and friend. We love you.
