PREP BASKETBALL: Priest River boys fend off Timberlake

PRIEST RIVER — Senior Palmer Coleman and junior Ian Lamanna hit one free throw each with less than two seconds to go as the host Spartans held on for a 2-point non-league victory over the Tigers on Tuesday.

Coleman finished the game with a team-high 11 points and recorded nine rebounds and five assists. Lamanna had nine points, six of which came from 3-point land. Senior Brock Kreager also had two 3-pointers, netted 10 points and came away with three steals for Priest River, which used a 15-5 advantage in the second quarter to take a 26-19 lead heading into halftime.

Senior Tyler Engelson had 17 points to lead Timberlake, which scored 27 in the third quarter to take a 1-point lead heading into the fourth.

Carter Cook had eight points and nine rebounds, junior Lucas Mathews seven points and five rebounds for the Spartans.

Priest River (7-2) hosts Clark Fork on Thursday.

CLARK FORK — Clark Fork High head coach Stillman Berkely said it was an unenthusiastic first half, but his team fought back in the second half to make the score respectable.

Junior Owen Howard notched his fourth double-double in four games with 18 points and 13 rebounds, four of which were offensive, and swatted away five shots as the host Wampus Cats were downed by the Miners by a 17-point margin in a 2A Scenic Idaho Conference matchup on Tuesday.

Sophomore Mateo Cruz had 13 points, five rebounds and two blocks, senior Evrett Montgomery eight points, six of which were from downtown, and four assists in the loss.

BONNERS FERRY – Senior Asher Williams scored a school-record 45 points — all in the first three quarters —  as the Badgers defeated the Loggers in a non-league affair.

Williams, a Montana Tech commit, broke the previous school record of 43, set by Jeff Nearing. Williams made five 3-pointers, all in the third quarter, and scored 21 points in the quarter. 

Thomas Bateman scored 23 points for Bonners Ferry (11-0), which plays at Stillwater Christian in Kalispell, Mont., on Friday. 

Ryan Beagle led Libby with 13 points.

COCOLALLA — Malachi Duchow had a team-high 17 points, 11 in the first half, and the host Thunder stormed to their fifth straight win on Tuesday with an 8-point win over the Spokane Co-op.

Hunter Peterson had 10 points, eight in the second half, while Rowan Palmer and Melkam Manning pitched in eight points each for the Thunder, which used an 18-point first quarter to set the tone early.

Dylan Day added four points and a team-high seven rebounds, Gavan Miles two points to go along with a team-high four assists and four steals.

The Thunder (7-2) travel to Spokane Valley on Friday for a matchup with The Oaks, which are undefeated on the season at 10-0.

RATHDRUM — Sophomore Jordyn Tomco returned to the lineup and hit 4 3-pointers on her way to a team-high 17 points, but the visiting Lady Bulldogs stumbled by 10 in a 5A Inland Empire League match against the Lady Hawks.

Sophomore Brecken Mire added 16 points and four assists and her and Tomco both pulled down five rebounds each. Sophomore Livia Driggs registered nine points in the loss.

"We had some good moments throughout the game, but Lakeland was able to get into their offense and was consistent with their scoring throughout the game — we just didn't match that," Sandpoint High head coach Will Love said. "We learned some things that we need to do as a young team to be able to pull out wins on the road, especially in the league."

Senior Demi Driggs contributed five points, two steals and a block for Sandpoint (6-7), which has lost four straight and will look to right the ship Thursday with a home game against Moscow — the first of five straight home games.

MULLAN — Senior Hannah Thompson had 14 points and eight rebounds, Kathi Rupp nine points, 15 rebounds and four steals, and the visiting Lady Cats defense stood strong in a 25-point non-league win over the Lady Tigers on Tuesday.

Junior Priscilla Mayorga also stuffed the stat sheet, recording eight rebounds and five assists in addition to her two points. Fellow junior Piper Scarlett added five points and four assists for Clark Fork, which has won four of their last five games.

"Tonight was a great game because we had an all-around performance," Clark Fork High head coach Chris Cavanaugh said. "Hannah led us in points, Kathi in rebounds, like usual. Priscilla played a great all-around game and made the right plays when it needed to happen."

COCOLALLA — Casey deGraaf and Rachel Hammond both had four points as the host Lady Thunder were defeated by Spokane Co-op on Tuesday.

Lexi Ball registered two points and eight steals, Mazie Miles three rebounds, two assists and three steals for the Lady Thunder (1-6), which travel to The Oaks in Spokane Valley on Friday.
