Pend Oreille Arts Council continues to offer a wide variety of adult art classes for burgeoning artists, and those who professionally utilize the arts.

These upcoming classes and workshops are held at the Joyce Dillon Studio located at the rear of the POAC Gallery, 313 N. Second Ave., in Sandpoint. I think you’ll agree with me when I say that there is something for everyone interested in learning more about making art.

First, I must admit that when I saw the class titled “Discovering Alcohol Inks” I didn’t notice the word “inks.” Although discovering alcohol may sound interesting, what’s happening is that Susan Gallo is teaching a class utilizing these vibrant, fast-drying inks that can be used on a variety of non-porous surfaces. This workshop will be held Jan. 15 from 10 a.m. to noon. The cost is only $24 and the last day to register at artinsandpoint.org is today, Jan. 9. This class will fill, so be sure to register early.

Also on Wednesday, Jan. 15, Mary Gayle Young will teach a workshop on jewelry making from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. The cost for this class is $36 and you will design and produce a distinctive piece of jewelry that you’ll be excited to wear. Sign up by Jan. 9.

Julie Ellis will be teaching how to make glass windchimes Saturday, Jan. 18, from 1 to 4 p.m. These beautiful wind chimes will accent your home or patio décor and brighten up your day. The last day to register for this class is Jan. 18 and it typically fills, so be forewarned. It only costs $36.

On Thursday, Jan. 30, and Friday, Jan. 31, from 10 a.m. to noon, Molly Gentry will be teaching students how to create a collage mirror. If you’re interested in creating a unique wall hanging, this is the class for you. It will only set you back $48 to make an incredibly artistic piece, so register by Jan. 24.

If you’re keen on learning the techniques of using pastels, T. Kurtz will immerse you in the fine art of landscapes in that medium. Composition and light is the focus for these classes that will run on four consecutive Tuesdays starting Feb. 4 from 9 to 11 a.m. Registration deadline is Jan. 29, and the cost is $96.

Also in early February, POAC is excited to welcome Alison Barrows-Young, who will be teaching a class in abstract painting, also on Tuesdays. These three classes will be held Feb. 4, 11 and 18, from 1 to 4 p.m. The cost of the class is $108. Sign up by Jan. 29 to explore your personal expression through abstract form.

The list is longer than the space allocated here, but you need to know there are a multitude of other classes coming up in the winter schedule. They include learning macrame with Sadey Vogel, making copper bracelets with Dave Gonzo, exploring acrylics with Dan Carpenter, Kimekomi with Jenni Barry while Jan Rust is doing two different classes, one in weaving and another in oil and cold wax painting.
