PREP BASKETBALL: Sandpoint girls close strong in win over Moscow
GIRLS
Sandpoint 55, Moscow 37
SANDPOINT — The connection between Demi Driggs and Brecken Mire was in full effect Thursday night at Les Rogers Court.
Mire, a sophomore guard, and Driggs, a senior small forward, combined for 31 points and each had five assists as Sandpoint bounced back with an 18-point 5A Inland Empire League win over the visiting Lady Bears.
"They did a good job of seeing each other on the court," Sandpoint High head coach Will Love said of Mire and Driggs. "Demi had a really good game. She had the 10 points, but did a lot of glue stuff that isn't necessarily in the stat book."
Coach Love said everyone was focused and onboard in what was a team effort from wire-to-wire.
"I really like how we finished that game," Love said. "We did a good job coming out strong in the third quarter, that's been a bugaboo in several games this year. Moscow is well-coached and they did a good job on their high-low action ... I was proud of our overall effort throughout the entire game, both offensively and defensively."
Sophomore Jordyn Tomco added nine points, sophomores Carly Laybourne and Livia Driggs six points and three steals each for the Lady Bulldogs, which used a 13-3 run in between the third and fourth quarters to seal the victory.
Sandpoint (7-7) hosts Ridgeline of Spokane Valley on Saturday.

Thompson erupts for 32 in Lady Cats loss
Selkirk 49, Clark Fork 44
CLARK FORK — It was a much better outing for Chris Cavanaugh's squad in comparison to their last meeting with the Lady Rangers.
Senior Hannah Thompson scored a career-high 32 points, 16 split between both halves, as the Lady Cats suffered just a five-point non-league loss Thursday. The last time these two teams met, Selkirk took home a 43-point victory by way of a 66-23 score.
"We were down Piper Scarlett tonight and Hannah did everything possible to will us to a win, but we came up just short," Cavanaugh said. "Nora-Jean Hoy and Jamie Herrick did an awesome job making Selkirk's best player (Millie Rice) work for everything ... I'm proud of the whole team for coming in and playing a game like that after we lost to them by 43 earlier in the season."
Junior Kathi Rupp added seven points, collected 13 rebounds, and snatched up six steals while junior Priscilla Mayorga added three points, five rebounds and three steals for Clark Fork (4-7), which will look to build off the strong performance when they travel to Wallace on Tuesday.

10 Spartans score in rout of Clark Fork
Priest River 58, Clark Fork 27
PRIEST RIVER — Priest River's full court press worked out to perfection Thursday.
Senior Sawyer Staudt had 15 points, senior Nate Stifel had 12 and grabbed nine boards, and the host Spartans downed the visiting Wampus Cats for a 31-point non-league win.
Junior Ian Lamanna scored nine points, junior Lucas Mathews and senior Carter Korff six each in what was a complete performance by Priest River. Senior Palmer Coleman contributed four points, six steals, and him and Mathews tallied three assists each for the Spartans, who led 32-12 at halftime. Stifel and Korff also swatted away two shots each.
"The gameplan for us was to implement the full court press and create some turnovers and convert on some easy buckets," Priest River High head coach Kevin Wylie said. "Clark Fork was short-handed, so that's what we came up with."
Clark Fork, which was missing the presence of junior Owen Howard for the majority of the second half, was led by sophomore Mateo Cruz, who netted nine points and recorded six rebounds and two blocks. Senior Evrett Montgomery had seven points and eight rebounds, junior Westin Caven seven points, and a team-high nine rebounds, three steals and three blocks in the loss.
Priest River (8-2) was originally scheduled to play Bonners Ferry on Tuesday, but the game was cancelled due to no available officials. Instead, they'll take some extended time off before returning Jan. 21 when they travel to St. Maries.
Clark Fork (0-5) will look to grab their first win of the season Tuesday when they host Mullan.
