Jan. 16, 1975 – PLAN SPARKS DEBATE
A public Sandpoint Planning and Zoning meeting to discuss a comprehensive plan for the City drew much criticism that the plan had not been circulated well enough. The 46-page plan, outlining a general direction for growth for the next 20 years, also has a 75-page list of ordinances which would be used to implement the plan. Just one copy of the plan was made available to the public for inspection. “We meant to have another copy in the library, but I don’t know what happened,” said one of the planners.

MONEY EARMARKED FOR EXTRA COPIES
Reacting to public pressure, the Sandpoint City Council approved a Planning & Zoning request to print 25 copies of the comprehensive plan to distribute through the library and City Clerk’s office. Councilman Ed Eitzman also moved that the council either order 25 more copies or print it in the paper, whichever is cheaper. Discussion among the council showed that at least three of them haven’t read the plan.
