SANDPOINT — While January is almost to an end, freezing temperatures are not going anywhere. And, for those in need, North Idaho Firewood Rescue is on hand to provide emergency firewood.

Area residents who are unable to keep their homes warm due to finances, disabilities, health issues or age, North Idaho Firewood Rescue can deliver emergency firewood for free. Since 2017, Firewood Rescue — a nonprofit in Sagle— has helped provide heat to Bonner County homes, as well as some homes in Boundary County, through emergency firewood distribution.

“Firewood Rescue is a 501 (c)3 which provides an emergency delivery of firewood to individuals or families in jeopardy of running out of wood to heat their homes.  Priority consideration goes to the elderly on low or fixed income, disabled, seriously ill or financially challenged,” Firewood Rescue mission statement.

In addition to its permanent wood shelter, Firewood Rescue has two satellite operations in Boundary County and western Bonner County. Its emergency resources are available to those who are facing financial hardships, disabilities or other challenges. If you think your household qualifies, reach out to Firewood Rescue by email at firewoodrescue2020@gmail.com and include your name, phone number, address and information about your emergency. Deliveries typically take between two to three days.

Firewood Rescue is currently accepting donations to help with its operation.

"By contributing to our cause, you directly support our efforts to deliver firewood to households facing financial hardships, disabilities, or other challenges,” Firewood Rescue officials said on the group’s website.
