ISP investigating fatal Friday crash

SANDPOINT — Idaho State Police is investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash Friday morning near Samuels.

ISP troopers said that a 48-year-old male from Athol was northbound in a black 2005 Chevrolet Silverado northbound on the highway when he drove left of center. The vehicle struck a southbound blue 2024 Freightliner semi-truck driven by a 31-year-old male from Calgary, Alberta, in Canada head-on.

The driver of the Chevrolet Silverado was not wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced deceased at the scene. He was the sole occupant of the vehicle.

U.S. 95 was blocked for about3.5 hours. The crash remains under investigation by the Idaho State Police. Next of kin has been notified.

The crash was reported just before 9:59 a.m. near milepost 487 on U.S. 95 just north of Samuels

Assisting ISP at the scene were the Bonner County Sheriff’s Office, Northside Fire Department and Idaho Transportation Department.
