Local trio excels at Washington State Junior Rifle Championships

SPOKANE — Junior rifle shooters from clubs in Sandpoint and Bonners Ferry participated in the Washington State Junior Smallbore Indoor Championships held this past Saturday, March 8, at the Spokane Rifle Club.

Each individual shot indoors at a distance of 50 feet, using single shot .22 rifles with iron sights. The goal of the competition is to aim for a dot not larger than the period at the end of this sentence to score 10 points. Shooters are given an overall score and a score split between their age group and by classes ranging from A to D, which are determined by using past scores. All three of the girls competed in the Intermediate Junior division (15-17), which made up of 37 of the 50 total competitors who toed the line between this past weekend and the weekend prior in Olympia, Wash.

Alora Rasor, representing the Sandpoint Rifle Club, placed an impressive ninth out of 50 overall, seventh out of 37 in her division, and second out of 10 in the A Class. She scored 1,050 out of 1,200 possible points, 368 in the prone position, 314 in the standing position and 368 in the kneeling position.

Paige Sartell, representing the Kootenai Valley Rife Club, placed 15th out of 50 overall, 12th out of 37 in her division, and fifth out of 10 in the A Class. She scored 1,026 points, 368 in the prone position, 316 in the standing position and 342 in the kneeling position.

Kyalynn Comer, also representing the Kootenai Valley Rife Club, was 20th out of 50 overall, 15th out of 37 in her division, and fifth out of 16 in the B Class. She scored 993 points, a B Class-best 386 in the prone position, 271 in the standing position and 336 in the kneeling position.
