SANDPOINT — The host Bulldogs won all 12 matches in straight sets over the Hawks in a 5A Inland Empire League matchup held Thursday at the James E. Russell Sports Center.

In girls singles, Bella Bailey and Pepper Rickert clinched victories without losing a game.

"Pepper's amazing serves were the highlight of the match … almost untouchable," Sandpoint High head coach Kent Anderson said. "Bella returned to her customary winning ways with a 6-0, 6-0 victory. Consistency and foot speed was the name of the game today. Nice to see Bella starting to hit her stride."

In boys singles, Jacob Dawson also won with a perfect score, with his big ground strokes and great closing volleys proving to be too much for his opponent to handle. Nathan Duke and Caden Martz only lost one game on their way to dominant victories.

"As great as everyone played today, match of the day goes to Nathan," Anderson said. "His 6-1, 6-0 victory over a strong opponent at No. 2 singles was a testament to the long hours of offseason practice he has put in this year. Great court coverage, solid attacking net game and shockingly powerful ground strokes are working well for him."

In doubles, Aubrey Knowles and Amelia Poulson posted a second set shutout to lead the way while Avery Thornton and Lane Harris posted 6-1, 6-1 set wins in the No. 1 mixed doubles spot. Fisher Dail and Joey Allen took home a big win in boys doubles.

"It was great getting both Lane Harris and Fisher Dail back in action; they missed the Lake City match," Anderson said. "This was a great overall performance against one of our biggest rivals in the 5A Inland Empire League."

Sandpoint (2-0) will host Moscow for another 5A IEL matchup Thursday.

NAMPA — Senior Gavin Day was 3-for-3 with three singles and three RBI in the first game against the Panthers as the Bulldogs split a pair of contests to start out the Buck's Bags Invitational held Thursday at Rodeo Park.

In the 10-run win over Parma, which competes in the 3A Western Idaho Conference, the Bulldogs put up a 6-spot in the bottom of the first inning to set the tone early.

In four consecutive plate appearances, senior Drew Lehman and sophomore Bode Eacret hit RBI singles, senior Jesse Turner a two-run double, and Day an RBI single before junior Parker Reichart got in on the fun and hit an RBI single of his own to round out the inning.

Junior Hayden Miller hit a two-run single in the third while Day knocked a two-run single in the sixth to enact the 10-run rule.

Sophomore Bode Eacret was dealing on the mound in his varsity debut, giving up just three hits and one earned run while striking out five batters across five innings of work.

In their second game against 4A Homedale of the Snake River Valley Conference, a four-spot by the Trojans in the bottom of the first made for a difficult Bulldog comeback.

Lehman, who combined to go 4-for-7 at the plate on the day, hit a two-run double to left field in the sixth to tie the game at 6-6 before Homedale rallied for the win.

Freshman Benson Brown was impressive on the bump in his varsity debut, giving up no earned runs and striking out three batters across 3.2 innings in relief.

Sandpoint (2-2, 1-1) will face Blackfoot for their third game of the tournament today.
