Richard Steven Lucas, 83
Richard Steven Lucas of Sandpoint passed away on March 12, 2025, at 83 years of age.
Richard was born on November 21, 1941, in Anderson, Indiana, and spent his childhood in Indiana before moving to Crystal Lake, Illinois, where he graduated from high school in 1960. Richard joined the Air Force in 1960 and was discharged in 1964 returning to Illinois where he held a position with Japan Air Lines at O’Hare International Airport.
While visiting his parents Robert and Florence Lucas, in San Diego, California, a few years later, he reconnected and married his childhood sweetheart, Jeanette Luke. They had two children, Jeffrey and Jean. In 1980, they decided to move to Sandpoint, Idaho, where their third child, Patrick, was born in 1981.
Richard is survived by his beloved wife, Jeanette; their three wonderful children; and nine very special grandchildren; as well as two sisters, Bette Stepek and Carol Hanley; and numerous loving nieces and nephews.
Richard was known by many for his organic compost and worm business as a member of the Sandpoint Farmers Market for many years.
There will be a funeral Mass at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church at 11 a.m. on March 27, 2025. All are welcome.
