PREP ROUNDUP: Thaete, Davidson, Vermeer garner gold at Lewiston Invite
TRACK & FIELD
LEWISTON — Junior Jetta Thaete, junior Izzy Davidson, and senior Isaac Vermeer all won one event each to lead the Bulldogs at the Lewiston Invite held Friday in what was just the second meet ever at the new P1FCU Sports Complex.
Thaete was first out of 36 competitors in the javelin, throwing a new personal best of 118 feet 5 inches, which is currently the top throw in the state of Idaho across all classifications by over 17 feet. She also placed sixth in the discus (105 feet 5 inches) and 10th in the shotput (30 feet 7.5 inches) to round out a solid outing.
Also on the field, Davidson beat out 12 other pole vaulters with a mark of 9 feet 6 inches to capture the second Sandpoint gold on the girls' side while junior Elia Howard impressed, placing second out of 51 in the 100 (12.9 seconds), fifth out of 45 in the long jump with a new personal best mark (15 feet 8 inches) and sixth out of 43 in the 200 (27.1 seconds). Senior Noah Roark also posted a top-five finish in the high jump, placing fourth out of 31 with a height of 4 feet 10 inches.
For the boys, Vermeer was first out of 50 in the discus, throwing a new personal best of 136 feet 11.5 inches. In the pole vault, senior Van Lee tied his personal best of 12 feet even and finished third out of 23 competitors. Junior Mathew Kunde was sixth in the discus (126 feet 10 inches) and senior Triston Tomco grabbed a 10th-place finish out of 50 in the shotput with a mark of 38 feet 6 inches.
On the track, Trey Blumenberg had the top sophomore time in the 100 and placed eighth out 53 with a season-best time of 11.6 seconds.
Sandpoint returns to action on Tuesday, April 8 for a home dual against Lake City.

BASEBALL
Priest River-Orofino suspended
PRIEST RIVER — Friday's 3A Central Idaho League game between the Spartans and Maniacs at Priest River Junior High was suspended in the bottom of the second inning due to weather conditions.
Priest River (2-3, 2-3) will travel to Riverside High in Chattaroy on Saturday, April 5 for their first non-league contest of the season.
