Kenna Keener, 99

Kenna Gilbert Keener, 99, passed away Sunday, March 23, 2025, in his home in Sandpoint, Idaho. 

Kenna was born Dec. 10, 1925, in Springfield, Colo., to Claude and Era Keener. He moved to Sandpoint right before his 7th birthday where he attended Grouse Creek School House, which was a one-room school. To get to school, he had to go on horse or in the winter ski there. In elementary school, he met his future wife, Doris, and at 16, they eloped in Libby, Mont., on March 16, 1942. 

Together they raised seven children. Later, he was drafted in the Army where he served during World War II. The family live in Gresham, Ore., from 1964 to 1984 where he worked as an arc welder. Later on, they moved back to Sandpoint, where he owned over 1,000 acres of land in Upper Cold Creek and he became a logger. 

Kenna was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Sandpoint. He loved working on his CAT D4, flying his J3 Club and Piper PA11 planes, hunting, and the Lord. 

He is survived by six children, Linda Lucas, Kathy Meyer, Terry Keener, and Lori Siemers, all of Sandpoint; Kenneth (Char) Keener of Spokane, Wash., and Rick Keener of Springfield, Mo.; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. 

He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Doris Keener; a daughter, Melody; and an infant child.
