Joseph Hauck, 64
It is with deep sadness that our family announces the passing of Joseph Reed Hauck, age 64. Joe passed away peacefully in his home in Eugene, Ore., on Friday, Feb. 21, 2025, from natural causes.
Joe was born June 23, 1960, on the Rocky Boy’s Indian Reservation, one of seven Native American Reservations in Montana. Joe was raised on the Black Mountain Charolais cattle ranch in Bonners Ferry, Idaho. Joe fondly remembered the hours spent outdoors learning the family business form his father, Clifford Charles Hauck and cooking homemade meals with his mother Nina Bell Hauck.
In 1983, Joe married the former Margaret Kirk and together they raised their family in Hayden Lake, Idaho. Joe and Margaret shared a love for design work, athletics and backyard family gatherings. Their partnership was one built on shared ambitions and deep affection. Throughout his years, Joe sought a view of nature, live music and friendly conversations. His joy for life was infectious and felt by all who he connected with.
Joe is survived by his children and stepchildren, Kelly Legg, Matthew Legg, Erica Waterman, Benjamin Waterman, James Tucker, Sarah Tucker, Jodi Booth and Chad Booth. He is also survived by his siblings, Lisa Hull, Harry Hauck and Kimberly Brown; his grandchildren, Riley Legg, Alison Legg and Avery Waterman; and his Rocky Boy’s Indian Reservation family.
In keeping with Joe’s wishes, there will be no formal funeral service. Instead we ask you honor Joe by talking a walk in nature, appreciating the beauty of the outdoors as he loved to do.
We will be holding a celebration of life for Joe on Saturday, April 19, 2025, at the Fraternal Order of Eagles, 7159 Second St., Bonners Ferry, open to the public and Joe’s friends from 7-9 p.m. Please join us to remember Joe and celebrate his life.
