A 1,200-gram weather balloon with helium traveled about 75 miles from Diamond Lake, Wash. to south of Tensed during an experiment Gizmo-CDA conducted Friday with gifted/talented students from Rathdrum and Sandpoint Middle School. The balloon soared to near space at 100,000, but it did not adhere to the trajectory predicted by the students. Students expected it to land in Worley earlier than its 1:07 p.m. landing time.
