Local Eric Plummer, pictured hitting from the back court, lost 21-15, 21-4 to Gilbert Rosales in the Open Division finals of the Idaho State Handball Championships in Pocatello last weekend. Plummer was trying to defend his state title, but had no answers for the unique offensive firepower of Rosales, a pro 3-wall player and accomplished boxer who recently moved to Boise from Los Angeles. Declan Plummer also represented Sandpoint, losing a pair of close tie-breakers in both the B-singles and in a Idaho vs. Utah showdown in the finals of the B doubles. En route to the Open finals, Plummer defeated former Idaho State starting free safety Cody Soresnsen of Pocatello, an up and coming player, and former state champ Matt Sevieri from Boise in the semis. Rosales posted a similar convincing win in the semis, beating former College of Idaho pitcher Carson Taysum from Pocatello in the semis.
