The Idaho Inn at Coolin is pictured in this 1918 photo. A popular resort at the south end of Priest Lake, Coolin was named for Andy Coolin, the first white man to settle there. In the early 1920s, Nell Shipman, a Hollywood silent screen actress, built the Lionhead Lodge on the upper eastern shore of Priest Lake. One of the films, a full-length feature called “The Grub Stake” was filmed at Priest Lake, near Tiger in Pend Oreille County, Washington, and in Spokane, Washington. The company went broke and left the lake in 1925.
