UI students return after suspect's arrest

It's been nearly two months after four University of Idaho students were killed near campus and two weeks since a suspect was arrested and charged with the crime. Classes at the Moscow, Idaho campus resumed Wednesday, and the picturesque school grounds are starting to feel a little closer to normal. Students are walking the university's frosty sidewalks and crowding the food court. University spokesperson Jodi Walker says there's a general feeling of relief in the air, and in-person enrollment numbers are looking good. Many students had temporarily switched to online classes after the killings. The suspect in the case, Bryan Kohberger, will have a status hearing in court Thursday.

The family of a man arrested in the slayings of four University of Idaho students is expressing sympathy for the families of the victims. They also vowed in their statement Sunday to support him and promote "his presumption of innocence." Twenty-eight-year-old Washington State University doctoral student Bryan Kohberger was taken into custody Friday at his parents' home in Pennsylvania. Kohberger's attorney says his client will not fight extradition to Idaho and is eager to be exonerated. His parents and sisters say they "care deeply for the four families who have lost their precious children." They also say they "will love and support our son and brother."

Idaho police say remediation of the residence where four University of Idaho students were stabbed to death will start on Friday. The Moscow Police Department announced the start of the cleanup Thursday, saying the residence will remain an active crime scene under police control. Remediation activities will be done by a private company and include removing potential biohazards and other harmful substances used to collect evidence. In the weeks since the Nov. 13 homicides of Madison Mogen, Kaylee Goncalves, Xana Kernodle and Ethan Chapin, relatively few details have been released and police say no suspect has been identified.

Police: Oregon sedan not connected to students' deaths

Idaho police say they've determined that a white sedan found in Oregon is not connected to the Nov. 13 stabbing deaths of four University of Idaho students. The Moscow Police Department announced Tuesday that it was working with law enforcement in Eugene, Ore., to determine if the Hyundai Elantra left on the side of the road there after an injury crash was connected to the Idaho case. Later that day, Moscow police said investigators determined the vehicle was not related to the case and asked members of the public to stop contacting the vehicle's owner. Relatively few details have been released about the homicides of Madison Mogen, Kaylee Goncalves, Xana Kernodle and Ethan Chapin.
