Sandpoint sophomore Jetta Thaete was one of three Bulldogs who competed in the javelin throw this past Friday at the Lewiston Invitational — the first time girls from Sandpoint High ever competed in the event. Thaete finished second out of 22 competitors with a throw of 101 feet and eight inches, a mark that currently ranks first in Idaho’s 4A classification. Idaho became the 22nd state to legalize the javelin throw this year. The event, which will only be offered during regular season meets in 2024, will be sanctioned and a part of postseason meets and the state championship starting in 2025.
