Sandpoint standout Shane Sherrill recently committed to continue his wrestling career at Doane University (NAIA) in Crete, Neb. Sherrill was a four-year varsity competitor who compiled an unofficial high school record of 102-26. He is a two-time 4A District 1-2 Champion (138 pounds) and also finished second at 132 pounds his freshman year. At the 4A state tournament this past season, Sherrill finished an impressive third and was fifth the year prior. Sherrill wrestled to five major tournament wins throughout his career: Ted Kato (2024), George Wild (2023 and 2022), Conrad Garner (2023), Bob Mars (2022). Also of note, he finished sixth at the North Idaho Rumble and was fifth at Tri-State during his senior season — some of the largest tournaments in the Pacific Northwest. Outside of the regular season, Sherrill wrestled for Bonners Ferry Wrestling Club where he picked up 31 championship titles dating back to his middle school years. He was also a three-time Fargo National qualifier (USA Nationals) where he helped Team Idaho to their first ever national title in the summer of 2023. Sherrill will look to contribute in a big way for the Tigers, who won the Great Plains Athletic Conference title and were fifth at the NAIA National Championships this past season. Doane also produced four NAIA All-American Honors as a result of those feats. Surprisingly, Sherrill will be the second wrestler from North Idaho to compete in the GPAC… Waldorf University will be joining the conference next year, which is where Bonners Ferry alumni Jackson Rickter currently wrestles.
