Crowds flock to newest Catholic saint in Assisi

Millennial teen's ordinariness is the draw for faithful

Hundreds of thousands of pilgrims have been pouring into the medieval hilltop town of Assisi in Italy to venerate the Catholic Church's newest saint. Carlo Acutis, the first millennial saint, will be formally canonized on April 27. The boy, who died in 2006 when he was 15, lies wearing sneakers and a sweatshirt in a shrine in a somber Assisi church honoring St. Francis. For his mother, the church, and the pilgrims, Acutis shows how a regular teen of today's world can achieve holiness — and inspire devotion uncommon in youth like him.

At one station, high schoolers demonstrated the conservation of angular momentum with a bicycle wheel and a low-friction turntable. Participants stood on the turntable and held the spinning wheel using two handles attached to its hub. When they rotated the wheel left or right, they found their whole body rotating on the turntable in order to compensate for the wheel’s change in angular momentum.

Community Library Network’s new policies could fracture regional library consortium

For decades, the Community Information Network has enabled libraries in North Idaho and eastern Washington to share their collections and broadened patrons’ access to materials. Now a restrictive policy for minor library cardholders in the Community Library Network, unlike any other in the library consortium, could mean that patrons across the region lose access to library materials.

Quick eater? Experts say it's time to slow down

Scientists say you're eating too fast if you typically finish a regular-sized meal in less than 20 minutes. That means you could have a higher risk of obesity, swallow more air that leads to bloating or have unchewed pieces of food lodged in your esophagus. Experts recommend slowing down by putting down your phone, turning off the TV and focusing on the meal itself.
