Keep your eye out for an enlarging cataract
Just about everyone I know has either had cataract surgery or is contemplating it. That’s because it’s incredibly common in older adults. “In fact,” the National Eye Institute says, “more than half of all Americans age 80 or older either have cataracts or have had surgery to get rid of cataracts.”

Research: Scaling back treatment can help some cancer patients
Scaling back treatment for some cancers can make life easier for patients without hurting the outcomes. That's what doctors are reporting this weekend at the world's largest cancer conference in Chicago. The research is part of a long-term trend toward doing less — less surgery, less chemotherapy or less radiation — to see if it can help patients live longer and feel better. Study: Service dogs ease PTSD symptoms
Specially trained service dogs helped ease PTSD symptoms in U.S. military veterans in a small study that the researchers hope will help expand options for service members. The research was published Tuesday in JAMA Network Open. The dogs are trained to pick up a veteran's physical signs of distress and can interrupt panic attacks and nightmares with a loving nudge. After three months, PTSD symptoms improved in both groups, but the veterans with dogs saw a bigger improvement on average than the veterans on the waiting list.
