Offering a cup of cold water to the thirsty

In my little meditation book “Abide, ” which I am reading during this Lenten season, I came across a section titled, “What's Enough?” The author veers from the fear many of us have of “having enough” materially, to another take on enough. She inserts words like, “Do I have enough compassion? Gratitude? Integrity? Joy? Trust? Contentment?

Can storing stem cells preserve youths' fertility?

Researchers have performed the first known transplant of sperm-producing stem cells in hopes of restoring fertility in a man who survived childhood cancer. There's no proven way to preserve boys' future fertility if cancer strikes before puberty. But a University of Pittsburgh study for years has frozen testicular tissue and cells before boys begin treatment to see if they eventually might help. Now the first study participant has returned as an adult to reimplant those cells in hopes of one day fathering a biological child.

Researchers find hint at how to delay Alzheimer's symptoms

An experimental treatment appears to postpone Alzheimer's symptoms in some people genetically destined to get the disease at a young age. Researchers reported Wednesday that people who had a sticky gunk named amyloid removed from their brains for an average of eight years saw their risk of developing Alzheimer's symptoms cut in half — at least for now. Washington University in St. Louis is continuing the study in hopes of finding proof. Participating families worry that needed funding is caught in delays at the National Institutes of Health.

More swerves hit Wall Street as 'Liberation Day' nears

The S&P 500 rose 0.4% Tuesday after roaring back from an early drop of 1%. The Dow Jones Industrial Average edged down by less than 0.1% after likewise pinging between gains and losses, while the Nasdaq composite added 0.9%. Treasury yields dropped in the bond market after a report said U.S. manufacturing contracted last month. Markets have been shaky in the run-up to Wednesday, when Trump will announce a sweeping set of tariffs.
