POAC offers a sneak preview of Artist Studio Tour
On Friday, Aug. 2 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., the POAC will host a reception at its POAC Gallery, 313 N. Second Ave., where they will be exhibiting samples of the works of local artists who are participating in the annual tour. Paintings, jewelry, metalwork, photography, fiber art, drawings and ceramics will all be on display at this exciting new exhibit.
Avista Foundation grants support education, youth development
The Avista Foundation is awarding $201,750 in grants to 40 nonprofit organizations in Washington, Idaho, and Oregon to support education and youth development.

Trapping and trucking ensures sockeye will be available for spawning
After crossing Lower Granite Dam, the fish still have about 400 miles to reach the Sawtooth Basin, and the first sockeye typically arrives at Sawtooth fish trap around the third week in July.

Agency reports crime rate drops statewide
While reported crime decreased statewide in 2023, it increased in Bonner County, according to the Idaho State Police uniform crime report published earlier this month.

Small wildland fire discovered, extinguished in Sandpoint
The burned area is adjacent to Chuck Slough and just east of the Baldfoot disc golf course. The eastern edge of the area is a handful of yards from a railway. No structures appear to have been affected by the fire.
