Army Surplus destroyed in fire
A longtime Sandpoint business was destroyed in a fire July 4, despite efforts by a multitude of firefighters who responded to the scene. The fire at the Army Surplus store was reported at about 10:15 p.m. Thursday, shortly after the fireworks show ended, with heavy smoke pouring from the gabled southern end of the building.
Week-long heat wave crashes into North Idaho

Police, fire officials seek info on Army Surplus fire
The fire was reported at about 10:15 p.m. July 4 with a full response from Sandpoint and Selkirk fire departments as well as mutual aid from Northside and Sam Owen fire districts. However, despite those efforts, the iconic downtown building was completely gutted with some of the creosote-soaked old timbers inside the building still burning more than 12 hours later.

Renowned musician to perform at Pine Street Woods
“In a Landscape: Classical Music In The Wild,” an outdoor music event, will take place at Pine Street Woods on July 29. Portland, Ore.-based concert pianist Hunter Noack travels to scenic landscapes throughout the West with a nine-foot Steinway grand piano. Listening with wireless headphones, attendees are free to roam the landscape for an immersive experience.
