Make your voice heard on school standards
As a member of a grassroots group of engaged citizens, Citizens Empowering Education, I have been researching the Idaho State Standards for about a year. One of the issues that I questioned is if we should be concerned about the upcoming testing in our schools. This question is vital since these tests will be used to evaluate our students, teachers and schools. In order to gain more information, I requested feedback from our state’s superintendents. I then received this letter from a superintendent in southern Idaho. It concerns the assessments that our district will be giving this spring, the SBAC, Smarter Balance Assessment Consortium. CCSS refers to Common Core State Standards. I quote:

United Way of North Idaho announced recipients of the 2023 Community Care Fund competitive grant awards in a Thursday news release. Sixteen local nonprofits that positively impact lives in Idaho’s five northern counties were selected. Grantees demonstrate alignment with United Way’s education, health and financial stability goals; its focus on reaching the ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) population; and aiding community collaboration. Ada Anderson was named Distinguished Young Woman of Sandpoint 2024 for the Class of 2025 at Saturday's program at Sandpoint Middle School. She receives a $4,000 scholarship. Betti Travers was named first finalist, receiving a $3,000 scholarship; and Zella Lopez was named second finalist, receiving a $2,000 scholarship.
