Veteran honored for radio operator work on his 100th birthday
On his 100th birthday, surrounded by family and friends, Robert Douglas Gwin still was clutching the folded American flag he had been given earlier that afternoon by the Kootenai County honor guard. As his family came person by person to greet him and wish him a happy birthday, he pointed out a patch on his uniform from his Army Signal Corps days. “I sewed that myself,” he said.

Bike park would add to, not harm, community
It is with a completely biased opinion that I write this in support of the bike park in Sagle, Idaho. I was looking online for a job that I thought would be fun or enjoyable this summer and found one that likely will be both; working as a trail builder at a bike park. I met with three-fourths of the Kalbach family and was very impressed with their passion and commitment to community and mountain biking.

Violent Femmes taking to Festival stage
The platinum-selling folk-punk group Violent Femmes will take to the Festival at Sandpoint stage on Friday, July 26. The seminal alt-rockers will be giving fans a one-two punch when they perform both their eponymous debut album as well as their sophomore release, "Hallowed Ground", cover to cover during a limited run of shows.
McArthur Lake project moves forward
Work is moving forward on the U.S. 95 project near McArthur Lake. As of April, Idaho Transportation Department officials said bridge abutments and the pier, which serve as foundations for the bridge itself, are nearing completion.
