More commonly known as the SPOT bus, the local transit authority’s founders, employees and board were recently recognized by Idaho public transportation providers for their innovative service development model, foresight, hard work and extraordinary efforts. SPOT Bus received five statewide Hall of Fame awards at the recent Public Transportation Summit held recently in Coeur d’Alene.

Ponderay PD no longer accepting stray dogs
Due to financial constraints, the Ponderay Police Department will no longer be accepting any dogs found wandering in the city. Also, since ending an agreement with the Better Together Animal Alliance, the department will no longer be able to take animals to the shelter, police department officials announced in a press release.

Community rallies to help family hurt in crash
A Bonner County teen is in critical condition after the car she was in was struck head-on Wednesday evening by a vehicle that had crossed the center median. Her mother, Deanna Baugh, 37, of Cocolalla, was transported to a local hospital by ground ambulance with serious injuries and a badly broken leg. The driver of the other vehicle was also injured in the crash.

Group seeks de-annexation from Dover
Almost three dozen property owners are calling on the court to let them leave the city after several attempts to gain permission from Dover officials have failed in recent months. In the petition for judicial de-annexation, the residents contend their properties are exclusively agricultural and, as a result, qualify for de-annexation. Idaho Code permits the de-annexation of such properties when residing within city limits is not a substantial benefit to a city.

It may not be what anyone wants to hear, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers officials included, replacing Albeni Falls Dam's troubled gates is going to take time. While a plan is in the works to "patch" Gate 3 for use as a spare by spring runoff next year, full gate replacement isn't likely to begin for three years, with the project slated for completion in 2029.
