Medicare prescription programs available to all
For most Americans, particularly those of Medicare age, prescription drug coverage is one of the most important issues in their lives. The reasons are obvious, the medications we need more and more to remain healthy as we age are taking ever increasing bites out of what we may have believed to be adequate funds for our "golden years." In short, the gold we saved and planned for just isn't enough to provide for our needs.

Terrorism at the pump
What better way to destroy America's economy than for the Arabs to raise the gas prices. No other nation uses their highways as we Americans. We drive an average of 15,000 miles per year. Gas consumption on jammed-packed (parking lot) freeways in our major cities consumes even more gas. The best way to bring us to our knees is to bring consumer commerce to a halt. The only reason for the terrorist to use guns, and bombs in our cities is to bring fear and panic. Keep a sharp eye on your grocery bills, they're rising already.

Petition seeks reduction in RV licensing fee
Registered voters and RV owners, there is a petition circulating in Idaho to reduce RV licensing fees. RV, recreational vehicles, which are slide-in campers, camp trailers, tent trailers, fifth wheels, motor homes and horse trailers with sleeping quarters all pay this licensing fee. This fee started in 1985 at $3.50 to each license, and over the years has escalated to $8.50 for the first $1,000 of value and $5 for every $1,000 of value thereafter.
For community's sake, let the bypass be built
Allow the bypass to take place! If you have driven through downtown Sandpoint lately, you would know that traffic has become a problem, and this once little "walking town" has become a thoroughfare for chip trucks, cattle trucks, delivery trucks, equipment trucks, and a huge amount of speeding travelers just trying to get through town.

ITD official shouldn't shoot messenger over bad plan
The ITD's rumored threat to sue NICAN is a classic example of 'shooting the messenger.' It's bad enough that the ill-conceived Sand Creek Bypass project puts the interest of the State above the concerns of the community. The project should, at least, comply with all State and Federal laws designed to protect our environment. Thank you NICAN for delivering this message in the only way our state bureaucrats seem to understand!

In the July 26 letters to the editor, there was an article by Linda Ousley. I'd like to thank her for moving to Sandpoint from California. All three of my grandchildren were born at Bonner General Hospital. Raffle to benefit BGH nurses scholarship fund
Florence Nightengale set a new standard during the American Civil War with her dedicated and tireless service to the victims of that war. Her oil lamp burned constantly and gave hope to so many that it has become the prideful symbol of nursing professionals.
Crime scene cleanup governed by regulations
In this week's article, I thought I would discuss one of the hardest jobs I've ever had to do — and that is as a crime scene cleaner. This job taps every sense of the cleaner's being. It pulls on their emotions because of the intense sadness the family feels and the compassion that tugs on their own emotions. Every scene is different regardless of whether it's a homicide, suicide or decomposition (natural or accidental death).

When is a crow more important than a governor?
For years I have heard from county-elected officials past and present that "nothing can be done about property taxes as long as Crow is in office."
Karl Rove must be held accountable for actions
Some of us pay attention to national news and want our politicians to conduct themselves in a responsible manner. President Bush's Supreme Court nomination has seemed to take his buddy Karl Rove off the hot seat. There needs to be a full accounting to the American people about what happened in this CIA leak case.
Evolution's critics dismissed too glibly
Jack DeBaun (July 28) dismisses his critics too glibly. Labeling the letters of others as "misstatements" doesn't make it so. And not everyone who opposes evolution is a creationist. Any intelligent person who examines macroevolution carefully can see its defects. It has not been proven by the scientific method, because it is not observable nor replicable. Right from the beginning, macroevolutionists fabricated conclusions and tried to massage the data (and in some cases just made it up) to fit those conclusions. They are the ones practicing "pseudoscience."
