For his 92nd birthday in 2017, Delia (Dee Dee) Freney of Sandpoint, took her father, World War II and Korean War veteran George Dong, also of Sandpoint, on the Honor Flight to Washington, D.C., where he was able to visit the World War II Memorial.

Veteran recalls World War II, Korean service
Dong served in the 411th Field Artillery in the European Theater, stationed in England and Germany. He was one of the approximately 20,000 Chinese Americans who served. Later, he served stateside with the Army National Guard during the Korean War.
