May matters — be sure and vote for Woodward

May primaries are getting closer. If you've noticed there are signs going up that state that "May matters." It certainly does as it's the way to get Jim Woodward on the ballot. He needs to be there so we, the voters, can work together to remove Scott Herndon from the District 1 Idaho Senate seat — a place where he should never have been in the first place. The negative impact around him is like a dark cloud.

Work nears on street alignment project

Area residents will have to wait just a touch longer for the start of the highly anticipated Wisconsin Street realignment project. The early spring snows have pushed the start of the project to March 18, Priest River City Clerk Laurel Thomas said.

Panel sends school board bill to House floor

A bill inspired by the confusion that followed West Bonner's successful recall of two of its five board members cleared the State Affairs Committee on Tuesday. The bill, which passed on a 10-3 vote, was heard by the House State Affairs Committee because of its potential impact on state elections. It now heads to the House floor.

Proposed firearms bill draws concern

A firearms bill being heard by the Senate State Affairs Committee would add a level of “nuance” to state statute, according to its author. However, critics dispute Herndon’s contention, saying the bill could jeopardize their property rights allowed under a lease and could put such events as the Festival at Sandpoint at risk.

Herndon's constitutional proposal is concerning

Senator Herndon's Senate Joint Resolution 105, would add to the Idaho Constitution a provision guaranteeing rights to home schooling “free from government regulation.”

Omodt receives cease and desist from county officials

A cease and desist letter has been sent to Bonner County Commissioner Luke Omodt after the county’s prosecutor, sheriff and coroner claim that he illegally removed IT access to county servers from a sheriff’s deputy.

Labrador has no business meddling in election security

House Bill 470 would create an “Office of Election Crimes and Security” in Raul Labrador’s office. That would certainly be a waste of taxpayer dollars. The office staff would have little to do because Idaho elections have historically been fair and honest. The Attorney General’s sidekick, Dorothy Moon, who now chairs the extremist branch of the GOP, was never able to prove her wild claims that Canadians were coming over the border to vote in Idaho elections. The fraud claims of their friend, the My Pillow guy, were proven false. Where is the need for this new office?

Idaho Mythweaver raffle to benefit podcast

It's both a chance to win an oil painting honoring the Kokanee salmon that inhabit the lake and a way to support a local podcast highlighting the fish. The 18-inch by 24-inch painting, titled "Spawning Channel, was created by artist Terrel Jones of Troy, Mont., as a fundraiser for Idaho Mythweaver's Voices of the Wild Earth podcast.

Community rallies to help snowmobiler's family

A GoFundMe campaign has been created for the family of a Sandpoint man killed in a Friday avalanche. Lance J. Gidley, 54, of Sandpoint, was killed when he was caught in an avalanche Friday afternoon in the remote area of Boundary County. Searchers recovered the body Saturday after the snowmobiler was caught in an avalanche in the upper mountainous area of Pack River near Hunt Lake.
