Supreme Court allows emergency abortions in Idaho
The Supreme Court has cleared the way for Idaho hospitals to provide emergency abortions for now in a procedural ruling that leaves key questions unanswered. Thursday's ruling could mean the issue ends up before the conservative-majority court again soon. The ruling came after an opinion was briefly posted on the court's website accidentally and quickly taken down. The Biden administration had argued doctors must be allowed to provide emergency abortions when a pregnant patient's health is at serious risk. But Idaho said its law does allow abortions to save the life of a pregnant woman and federal law doesn't require wider exceptions.

Nvidia tumbles again as AI mania cools
Another slide for Wall Street heavyweight Nvidia kept U.S. indexes mixed, even as the majority of stocks rallied. The S&P 500 slipped 0.3% Monday. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.7%, and the Nasdaq composite fell 1.1%. Stocks of oil-and-gas and financial companies had some of the market's biggest gains, as seven out of every 10 stocks in the S&P 500 rose. But declines for a handful of winners from Wall Street's frenzy around AI offset all of those gains. Nvidia fell to a third straight loss and is down nearly 13% in that stretch. Treasury yields eased slightly in the bond market.

Alzheimer's drug gets backing from FDA advisers
Research shows it slows the disease
Federal health advisers have endorsed a closely watched Alzheimer's drug from Eli Lilly for people with mild dementia. The FDA will make the final decision on approval later this year. If the agency agrees with its advisers, the drug would only be the second Alzheimer's drug approved to slow cognitive decline due to Alzheimer's. Despite discrepancies in how Lilly studied its drug, the panel says it should be approved broadly for various patients with the disease. The FDA approved a similar infused drug, Leqembi, last year.

Tips help reduce falling risk
One in four older adults in the U.S. fall each year, putting them at risk of injury, broken bones and even death. Falls are not inevitable. Simple exercises, adjustments in medications and staying on top of vision and hearing screenings can all help lower the risk of falling. Experts also say to fall-proof your home by getting rid of small rugs and dim lighting and installing railings or grab bars in places where it might be easier to lose your balance. If you do fall, experts recommend telling your doctor immediately to address the root cause and keep it from becoming a pattern.

ITD drops controversial route
Would have cut through multi-generational family farms
After extensive community feedback, the Idaho Transportation Department has dropped one of the proposed routes for a proposed highway thoroughfare through Sagle. The proposed route — which was only at the beginning of the brainstorming phase to see if it would be feasible — would see the highway snake to the east, going through numerous multi-generational family farms. This caused significant public criticism throughout the county as the term “eminent domain” circulated in the community. Eminent domain is the governmental ability to obtain private property and convert it into public use, and residents thought ITD would enforce that to take control of properties for the project.

I find it rather insulting that Tim Henney submitted a letter crowing about the election of RINO Jim Woodward. Tim chortles with glee and compares conservatives to Nazis.
