Bill creates new crime of illegal entry, allows local law enforcement to check people’s immigration status
The Idaho House of Representatives voted 53-15 on Friday to pass a new immigration bill that includes lengthy passages that were copied and pasted word-for-word from a controversial Texas law that is tied up in legal challenges. Rep. Jaron Crane, R-Nampa, sponsored House Bill 753, which was fast-tracked in the Idaho House of Representatives after it was introduced on Wednesday.

Appropriation bills struggling to pass through the House and Senate chambers are keeping legislators from packing up and heading home. One of those appropriations bills, House Bill 734, which provides appropriations for Idaho’s colleges and universities for fiscal year 2025, was one of the most contentious votes of the session.
