1. Idaho was devastated by the great recession and has had a difficult recovery. Compared to other states Idaho ranks near the bottom in almost every measure of the economy, we need to be serious about education and our public lands are under siege. Idaho’s poor recovery has been lead by a Republican Legislature. If Idaho is to do better we need changes in Boise. Instead of complaining I am trying to do something.

New books, new curriculum, and big cash awards are on their way to three Bonner County schools as part of the Idaho Lottery’s “Do Good” programs, Bucks for Books and Classroom Wishlist. Southside Elementary in Cocolalla and Priest Lake Elementary in western Bonner County are each receiving $2,000 for new book acquisition for their school libraries as part of the Idaho Lottery’s Bucks for Books program. Forrest Bird Charter in Sandpoint received new English 101 curriculum textbooks as part of the Idaho Lottery’s Classroom Wishlist program.

1. There is no $400 million pile of Idaho cash in Washington just waiting to be claimed for the Medicaid expansion. In 2017 Idaho received $1.46 from the federal government for every $1 the state contributed in federal taxes. If Idaho expands Medicaid the funds aren’t “free.” Someone else is paying the tab. I would like to think that folks in North Idaho would prefer to pay their own way.

Idahoans warned about health insurance scammers
The Idaho Department of Insurance has been made aware of a possible scam by a company using deceptive practices to market health insurance in Idaho. Your Health Idaho, Idaho’s health insurance exchange, has received complaints from consumers about an organization called National Enrollment Center. Mwultiple attempts to contact the company went unanswered or were disconnected.
Is Minnick sending jobs out of Idaho?
“Congressman Walt Minnick is bringing jobs to Idaho …” Really? Well, that’s what the large print on his recent mailing said. So it must be true. Inside it proclaims, “Jobs are No. 1 priority” and “Minnick launches ‘economic blitz’ in Idaho.” Just below my address it reads, “This mailing was prepared, published and mailed at taxpayer expense.”
