Vitamin C does far more than preventing scurvy

Scurvy results from vitamin C deficiency. It can lead to loss of teeth, spontaneous bleeding, exhaustion, and pain in the legs. It’s been known since ancient Greek and Egyptian times, though I’ve actually never met anyone with scurvy.

Is glutathione the premier antioxidant?

Vitamin C, vitamin E, and beta-carotene are each powerful naturally occurring antioxidants. They protect cells from free radical damage by inhibiting oxidation. They come to us either in food (fresh veggies and fruits) or through internal processes in our body that create them.

Which supplements are actually foundational?

I would like to say that, when we eat a healthy diet based on fresh, clean, and whole foods, we will get an adequate supply of vitamins, antioxidants, minerals, and other nutrients. The reality is that we don’t.

Turmeric contains anti-inflammatory properties

There are many herbs that draw attention in medical literature, one of the most frequently mentioned is turmeric. Some of the other herbs I read about include milk thistle, ginger, garlic, ginseng and cinnamon. I’ve discovered that turmeric is likely the most important of these at fighting and reversing disease.

In theory it’s perfect. A family get-together with the menu pre-determined. No presents, no elaborate decorations, no greeting cards, no singing, no church services, just a time to be thankful for family and friends. Right? Well, yeah, for some. As cancer treatment advances, patients and doctors push back against drugs' harsh side effects

Cancer patients and doctors have ignited a movement to radically change how new cancer drugs are tested to make them more tolerable. Harsh side effects from powerful cancer drugs have long been accepted as a trade-off for living longer. Now, patients and doctors are questioning whether all that suffering is necessary. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is pushing drugmakers to do a better job at finding the lowest effective dose, even if it takes more time. One group is planning a study to test whether lower doses of two new drugs will work for breast cancer that has spread.

When age-related macular degeneration becomes geographic atrophy

I learn so much from commercials. The other day I watched Henry Winkler talk about GA. He said, “GA is irreversible, it’s important to catch it early.” I wasted no time Googling “GA” to find out what it is. Geographic atrophy, I found out, isn’t when my brain can’t find Bolivia on a map.
