Community projects are good for geezers
Do you remember what a “geezer” is? The word comes from a late 15th century English word for “disguise.” So, according to yours truly, a geezer is an older person with a youthful, hopeful attitude toward life and simply lives in the disguise of gray hair and wrinkles.

All Saints' Day put focus on spiritual, not spooky
Christians in many countries around the world are celebrating All Saints' Day, a somber and spiritual day in the church's liturgical calendar that shares pagan roots with Halloween. Believers and non-believers alike will gather on Friday with family, sweep fallen leaves off the graves of their loved ones and cover them with votive candles and flowers. The word "Halloween" derives from "All Hallows Eve," which means the eve of All Hallows, or All Saints' Day. Scholars believe that the spectral aspects of Halloween emerged primarily from an ancient Celtic festival that occurred during the harvest season. As Christianity spread, many pagan rituals were adopted and adapted to the new faith to be more attractive to converts.

'Pan de muerto' brings sweetness to Day of the Dead
"Pan de muerto," or "bread of the dead," is freshly baked in Mexico ahead of Day of the Dead celebrations. Shaped like a bun, decorated with bone-like bread pieces and covered in sugar, it's a delight for locals until the first week of November, when Mexicans build altars or "ofrendas" and visit local cemeteries to remember their departed loved ones. These celebrations coincide with the crop season, which provides pan de muerto a spiritual, symbolic meaning. If its decorations resemble bones, it's because Mesoamerican worldviews regarded them as the origin of life.

Don't allow your hard-won freedoms to be taken away
Let's get real: Cornel Rasor and the IFF scare the hell out of me. Why? Because I have watched women come so far in my lifetime and worry that people take that for granted.
America’s mental gulag system
At Donald Trump’s Madison Square Garden rally, Tucker Carlson may have delivered his most blistering and prescient attack on America's political class to date.
