Draft long-range plan on bypass alternatives
I have read a number of letters to the editor proclaiming Sand Creek is nothing but a mudflat for most of the year and it isn't worth much to our community. I strongly disagree.

PUBLIC HEARING NOTICE
The East Hope City Council will conduct a public hearing on a subdivision request by Kathy Pattee and Marilyn Arndtson of 2407 Sahalee Dr East Sammamish, WA 98074 to create five (5) residential lots ranging from approximately 1 acre to 1.4 acres in size. The subject property is located within Block 6 of Crawford's Addition To The Village Of East Hope and is more particularly described as:
Skateboards, square are bad combination
You wouldn't want grandma and grandpa playing in the street any more then you would walk a toddler through the street, so why would you want a person on a fast-rolling vehicle where these same people are trying to enjoy the beautiful downtown.

What does America have to cheer about?
Once again, in his blind loyalty to the Republican perspective, Steve Hatcher is out in right field. He decries criticism of President Bush without presenting any examples of the president's successes. The reason for that is simple, there are none.

This letter is in response to David Keyes' editorial, May 27, 2004. The true issue here is the lack of a quality skatepark which would provide the kids a place to skate without harassment and provide the downtown area a quieter, safer, more shopping friendly environment.

I heard some more shocking news. School teachers are quitting their careers because they don't feel safe in the classrooms and they have no way to control unruly students who disrupt classes. Educators are too close and don't see an obvious answer. The problem started in the seventies, with the law that forbids corporal punishment in classrooms. It's a good law, but they haven't incorporated alternative means of discipline. Kids in upper grades now do whatever nasty things they please and get rewarded by feelings of power and peer admiration. Schools get sued for using ordinary discipline.

Mine isn't danger to water quality
On a recent Spokane radio talk show, I heard the comments by Mary Mitchell of the Rock Creek Alliance describing the demise of water quality in the Clark Fork River and Lake Pend Oreille by discharge of wastewater from the coming Rock Creek Mine. I was extremely disturbed by these allegations, and decided to investigate on my own. A call to the US Forest Service (USFS) was very informative.
Square isn't the place for area skateboarders
Since the water has been turned on at the town square, I have taken my grandchildren there several times to enjoy it. There were lots of smiles and squeals of delight. I went down there again, yesterday, and was very upset to see the damage that the skateboarders are doing to the fountain area since they were given permission to use it. Edges are chipping away, and I hate to think of what the tiles will look like in a few more days.

Allergies are nothing to sneeze at
If you are one of more than 60 million Americans who suffer from allergies, you should consider going the extra mile and deep clean your home. If you have allergies to pollutants like mold, dust mites, animal dander, human skin particles, pollen, cockroach droppings, etc., you should thoroughly cleaning your home from ceiling to floor. When I say ceiling to floor, I mean ceiling to floor. All vertical and horizontal surfaces must be wiped free of all dust. Our teachers and students should feel safe in our schools. The schools should be a sanctuaries of teaching and learning. Time has come to build a 'we'
It is an irrefutable fact that human beings have an incredible propensity and skill for finding fault with, and focusing on, the most negative aspects of any given situation. We love to point fingers at others shortcomings (ignoring our own) and imagine ourselves much more skilled and capable people than the objects of our scorn. We love to shout from rooftops that the sky is falling in and all is wrong with our world. We enjoy making blanket statements and obese generalizations about ills. We are also very afraid of putting egos and emotions aside in order to seek the truth, because sometimes pure truth doesn't fit in with what our mind wants to believe.

In response to the letter titled, "Once again, Bush hurts Americans," written by Mary Ann Rowe (April 22, 2004), I would like to say, "Shame, shame on you." This article stated that Bush's administration has hurt Americans by cutting overtime pay for workers that make more than $23,660 a year. Then it went on and on about the average workers not being able to "make ends meet" and how they are "stripped" from their overtime rights.
