SANDPOINT — Sandpoint will find itself in a strange situation, rooting hard for the Moscow Bears tonight in a regular season finale at Lakeland. Hellar more willing to consider dog parks
I was impressed by the long list of accomplishments attributed to Mayor Ray Miller in his campaign ad of Oct. 19. Many of these so-called accomplishments resulted from City Council decisions, some of which passed despite the mayor's opposition. Notably absent from the list was the mayor's successful opposition to the establishment of a dog park on Sandpoint public land. During the Parks and Recreation Commission consideration of a dog park, Miller made it clear that he opposed the idea. Naturally, the motion failed to go to the City Council.

Clark Fork volleyball team falls to Charter
COEUR d'ALENE — Junior outside hitter Chantel Wilkes had a "flawless" night in leading the No. 3 seed Panthers past the No. 6 seed Wampus Cats 25-20, 25-20, 25-19 in a loser-out match at Holy Family Catholic School to open the 1A District 1 tournament.
Quick-and-dirty solution will only add to problems
A pivotal point in the twists and turns of the Sand Creek byway history was the July 1994 ITD public meeting attended by about 300 people.

Events must appeal to wide variety of interests
I just heard that we may be losing a couple of events at the fairgrounds. My family and I do not go to the horse events. We attend the fair, but we really enjoy going to the mud drags and the demo derby. I just can't understand how the fairgrounds, having sell-outs for both of these events can stop them because the horse people are crying about how the arena was built for them and not for motor sports.

'Neighborhood bear' was not true hunting
I was sickened by the caption and photo in the Bonner County Daily Bee (Thursday, Sept. 13) of a dead black bear lying in the back of a Lexus. Perhaps instead of boasting about the "luxury ride" for his prey in a very expensive automobile, Cory Howard might have been more honest about how he killed this bear on opening day of archery season.

'Melting pot' comes with time, tolerance
Steve Brixen's Sept. 23 guest opinion focused on some serious issues. Unfortunately, he failed to address or suggest any solutions. Like so many reactionaries he sets up a straw man, tells us to be afraid of it and leaves us hanging. He hopes for answers but provides none. We need more ideas and fewer diatribes. We get our minimum daily requirement of that from our president and vice president.

Birds' gift is act of incredible generosity
I am writing in support of the incredible gift Drs. Forrest and Pam Bird have given to our community, especially for our schools. What an amazing opportunity to experience science and innovations right in our own backyard.
County needs to let museum stay open
I am writing to express my sentiments regarding the Bird museum. It is not often that a gift is so generously given to a community of the caliber of the Bird Museum. Not only has Dr. Forrest Bird saved countless lives with the invention of his various respirators, but he has also, through his museum, paid tribute to many, many people, of all walks of life, who have affected nearly everyone's daily lives through their various inventions. Wealthy individuals often are ridiculed for their lifestyles, no matter how they spend their money, and it is very sad that the small-minded petty jealousies of a few interfere with the ability to appreciate a gift given from the heart and the big picture of true charity demonstrated by the Birds.

The main stay of bloggers' interest still seems to be the Bee's recent expose (more than 40 responses, surely a record) of a local resident/activist (Pierre Bordenave) whose main vulnerability will likely prove to be his candor and involvement in many local causes and organizations. You know the saying: get involved, get hammered. Not one of the blogs, pro or con, mentioned that most of his work is gratis.

Catch this. ITD spends a cool half million on their wetlands permit application.
