Lockdown was nothing more than a disease of lies
We have experienced the most egregious move to socialism and debt ever in our country’s history. Started under the direction of “conservativism” with the excuses of “protecting the people,” freedom and our constitutional republic is summarily dismissed as non-essential. The election laws have been circumvented, and the free open gathering of people and candidates has been prevented. Our civil leaders have promoted the lie by declaring counties and the state to be in a state of emergency, intending to pacify us with federal funds replacing work, duty, responsibility, freedom, and truth itself. The proverb that if you don’t work, you don’t eat is disregarded by those who think they are wiser than God.

Thanks to whoever dreamed up ‘perfect’ District 7
Just curious as to who is running in the primary from District 7? Some folks don’t remember the process in 2000 when the politicos from the Republican party thought we should become a member of District 7 despite we are separated by two mountain ranges and two major rivers. Thanks to whomever in the Republican party that dreamed of the perfect district.

Our church, along with many others, recently “reopened” for public gatherings after eight weeks of “online gatherings”. Though we had continued to celebrate our oneness and spiritual connection through the “shutdown” period, the opportunity of coming back together physically and in one place brought new meaning to a welcoming sign we’ve had on the front of our building for a long time that quotes Psalm 122:1: “I rejoiced when they said, ‘Let us go to the House of the Lord”!

In response to Craig Royer’s letter on May 15 regarding labeling the country of origin on food products, why not skip all the dirty politics and dubious origins by simply voting with your dollars right here at home? North Idaho is home to an abundance of local farms and food producers, from produce to meat, eggs, cheese, and so much more. Not only does buying from local farms take the guesswork out of where it comes from, but you can get to know your farmer in person and support the local economy at the same time. Veggie landscaping is a beautiful and practical possibility
Gardening for some is a practical – often lifelong – necessity, designed to support a family’s food needs. Many people depend on the veggie harvest for their main sustenance, canning, freezing, drying or storing various crops to feed them through the seasons and over the winter. It was once a way of life mainly before the big supermarkets came into existence and I – like most folks during and after the ‘30’s depression – spent lots of spare time hoeing, digging spuds and picking cherries in their turns and pretty much enjoying it.

A perfect storm of common crises facing us
The freak windstorm, beginning Friday, March 13, was one of the most severe that this lifelong North Idaho resident has ever experienced. While paling in comparison to the personal hardships caused by the storm (damaged homes, buildings and vehicles), regional timberland owners also incurred losses of epic proportion. This was a perfect storm in the sense that it happened in a season strong northerly winds don’t usually occur. With no frost mantle to secure roots and total ground saturation, the oldest, largest and tallest trees were especially hard hit. On Gollen trust property, and many neighboring properties, the majority of downed trees were Ponderosa pine. Because of their disease and fire-resistant qualities (and relatively low market value), most forestland owners have regarded Ponderosa Pine as a favorable leave tree species, allowing them to grow and tower above surrounding trees; so, it’s logical that they would become casualties of a sustained high-wind event.

Want to know how and why a man like Hitler could mesmerize Germans and march the country to ruin in only a dozen years? German-born American historian Fritz Stern died this month, at the age of 90. As I was growing up in the years following America’s victory in the Second World War, I remember being so proud of the country and those who had served and given their lives to win the war. The country had come together as one to accomplish something truly remarkable. Americans of every national origin, faith and creed played a part in the war, although the participation of some — African Americans and Japanese Americans — had been in separate units. Nevertheless, the war dead were honored and mourned by a united, thankful nation.

Only one way to describe election: historic
I’m writing to you from what we affectionately call the “Bunker.” The Bunker is the base from which, under normal circumstances, we coordinate the massive undertaking that is required to pull off an election at hundreds of polling places, each processing hundreds, if not thousands, of voters. Elections offices are effectively the largest event planning operations in any given community. In Ada County, running an election is like hosting an event with 265,000 of our closest friends and neighbors all across 151 polling locations with all of the associated logistics of supplies, staffing, parking etc. Hence why we need a bunker. Months of methodical planning and preparation goes into pulling off each election to ensure every vote is counted and the experience is smooth for voters.

We want to know where our food is coming from
We, the American people, want to know where our groceries are coming from. That simple! It’s true that much of our produce is labeled as to where it is grown. Some of the pickles we buy state “product of India.” But many of the items we buy, come from, who knows where. We don’t care about “distributed by” which is usually printed on most labels. Are they hiding something from us? We want to know “product of” (what country) and where it was “processed” (country). We want this information printed on all labels affixed to all food products, whether in cans, bottles, jars, plastic bags, or whatever kind of container. Bradshaw is the rare official who delivers on promises
If you are a conservative Republican in Bonner County, please join me in voting for Steve Bradshaw for county commissioner.
For the good of the county, vote for Horton
The upcoming primary is a chance for voters to weigh-in on the direction of our county and those who are in charge. Our commissioners are paid well to represent our interests and to answer the question, “what’s good for the people who live here?”

Bradhaw is a clear choice for county commission seat
Having observed Bonner County Commissioner Steve Bradshaw over these past two years, it’s safe to say that we made a good choice when we elected him.
Bradshaw demonstrating strong leadership as commissioner
My first view of Steve Bradshaw in a public forum impressed me. In a high school auditorium packed with citizens who had turned out in opposition to the Newport smelter scheme, Bradshaw took on a panel of Washington state bureaucrats more interested in shady land deals than in preserving our environment. Bradshaw had done his homework and addressed critical environmental concerns with science and sincerity.
Bradshaw is a real deal Republican we can count on
As a conservative Republican voter, it’s not difficult to identify a pretend-Republican candidate. You recognize one by statements so bland that no one would find fault with them. There will be no specifics. He never attends Republican meetings and forums because he would get the tough questions he’s afraid to answer. But he does hang out with liberals and convince them — wink, wink — that he’s actually one of them, and presto, his campaign signs pop up in their front yards.
Vote to retain Steve Bradshaw as county commissioner
A county commissioner candidate should have experience and history with the county they are seeking to represent. This is crucial to decision making, understanding the needs of country residents, and applying their local experiences to county issues.
Rep. Sage Dixon is the honest and ethical choice
It’s one thing to focus on the differences between you and your primary opponent and highlight them in your campaign.
True advocacy for people with disabilities
During this year’s legislative session, I worked with Sen. Jim Woodward regarding state rules and regulations around employment opportunities for people with significant disabilities and Jim was there for me every step of the way. The responses to letters regarding Heather Scott and Daryl Wheeler, in my opinion, missed the point entirely including those from hospital executives, MDs and lawyers. I wrote in response to their protest regarding Governor Whitmer’s request to stay home, stay healthy and their obligation to think of their family, friends, neighbors during this brief moment in time for the health of their people. They have more cases of COVID-19 than California who has four times the population of Michigan. Russia, not China, is the one we have to worry about
I read some claims that states China is using this virus to eliminate us. One looks at most every thing we buy is made in China. Why would China want to eliminate their best customer? Now Russia has boasted since the end of World War II that they would destroy us and do so from within. From the meeting between Trump and Putin, along with the many visited made to Russia by Trump’s family members, has Russia had a better opportunity to carry their goal? Putin has vowed to break OPEC. Got an Idea where this cheap gas/oil prices is coming from?

Biden should pick Michelle Obama as his running mate
When it comes to the process of voting for whom I want to elect as president of the United States, I have found when talking with friends that it is almost always comes down to a decision of whom I would prefer as opposed to whom I really want to be the next president. And I am talking about five decades of voting.

In whose interest is Idaho’s actions on COVID-19?
Governor Brad Little is quoted as saying “This acts different than other types of viruses. We all know the common cold, the flu, what flu season is and how that acts. The issue is … we still have our normal flu. That takes the same hospital capacity … and also creates complications for us in a lot of ways.” (Daily Bee 5-6-20). He didn’t state how Covid-19 is different. He didn’t explain the “complications”. Was he having a senior moment or a Joe Biden moment? Was he letting It slip what he might do this autumn when the real 2020-2021 flu season arrives?
Horton the right choice for wood products
The wood products industry has been at the forefront of Idaho’s economic development from the state’s very beginning. We must continue to do our best by enhancing current jobs, creating new ones, and protecting the resiliency of our forests in the face of disease and fire.
County’s lawsuit over gun ban disrespectful, counterproductive
A county commissioner has the responsibility to represent all the people in the county. The vast majority of Bonner County residents love The Festival at Standpoint and the positive community impact it has on our \little spot of paradise. Why then did the county commissioners sue the city of Sandpoint and in effect sue The Festival? If there was a small group of people who felt like their rights were being ignored they could sue. With their own money. And their own lawyers. Why did the county commissioners jump in with our taxpayer dollars ($100,000 and still growing) when those dollars are meant for roads, bridges, emergencies, etc.?

Dixon represents lobbyists, not the people of North Idaho
Sage Dixon represents lobbyists and special interests, not the people of North Idaho. There are two votes that disqualify Sage Dixon in my opinion. The people of Idaho voted overwhelmingly for Medicaid Expansion after volunteers gathered 70,000 signatures across the state. Sage Dixon’s friends at the Payday loan industry are terrified the same grass roots approach will be used to stop their predatory lending practices. So, Sage Dixon worked tirelessly to make ballot initiatives impossible. Ballot initiatives are the only line of defense when elected officials fail to represent the people.
Suppiger well-suited to represent district, region in Legislature
Gary Suppiger is very well suited to represent District 1B and North Idaho in the Idaho House of Representatives. As a parent, as a business owner, as a volunteer in our schools, and as a member of LPOSD school board Gary has the breadth of knowledge and commitment that will make him an asset for North Idaho in Boise.
Number of deaths from COVID-19 is staggering
As any intelligent, educated being knows, it is the number of deaths from COVID-19 not the number of cases that we need to ponder to see the danger of this pandemic. It is a staggering figure in the U.S. Six weeks ago, on March 24, there were 957 deaths from Covid 19 in the United States. As of today, May 5, there are 70,110 deaths in the United States.
