Why did Sandpoint High School Athletic Director Chris Knowles fail to explain a 5-percent decrease would cut $82,241 over a two-year period rather than $411,210 per year after it already had been reported that the proposed levy amount for extracurriculars was $822,409 per year? Why did AD Knowles not explain that the proposed $67,000 per year increase in coaches’ salaries is a 15.3-percent increase, though the overall proposed increase for extracurriculars is 8.9-percent? Why did AD Knowles not provide the dollar amounts for league memberships and state associations that he implied were at risk? Sports are rewarding and all extracurriculars could benefit from a smaller increase for the few who are coaches with the remainder distributed more broadly for all extracurriculars.

We have just gone through an election process never seen before in the history of our republic. As I watched the election process, I did not lose sight of God and the fact that He declares that every soul be subject to the governing authorities, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God. Therefore, whoever resists the authority, resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will bring judgment on themselves.

As an almost daily traveler on the Long Bridge it is wonderful to see the end of construction and return to a somewhat normal traffic pattern. I continue to be amazed how well the contractor was able to replicate each and every bump and puddle on the road surface while hopefully extending the useful life of the bridge surface.

Education that involves science, technology, engineering and math is widely known by the acronym, “STEM.” It is the big thing in education these days because it claims to prepare children for future careers in the fields that are predicted to be in highest demand. STEM education couples academic concepts with experience-based learning through an interdisciplinary approach. The initial objectives of incorporating this teaching method in schools were to enable the future workforce to compete more effectively in the global economy and to replenish the aging workforce in an increasingly innovative world market.

1. Samuel Adams said “If ever a time should come, when vain and aspiring men shall possess the highest seats in government, our country will stand in need of its experienced patriots to prevent its ruin.” That time has come. The Supreme Court continues to base its opinions upon political correctness, not upon the original intent of the Constitution. Last year’s “gay marriage” decision was another watershed issue in our nation’s clear descent away from truth and right. The state has become the mother that seeks to provide cradle to grave. America was found- ed by men who believed in absolutes, they lived knowing who created them and were not only grateful to Him for life and liberty but knew someday they would an- swer for their actions or inactions. Where is the hope?

In a recent Associated Press article dated Nov. 2, 2016, in the Coeur d’Alene Press, the writer’s comments on this year’s presidential campaign summed up the feelings of many of us when they wrote,” As the caustic presidential race lurches toward the finish line, each candidate is aggressively casting the other as a catastrophic choice for the White House ... It’s an ugly conclusion to a contest featuring two of the most unpopular presidential candidates in modern American politics.”

From the Los Angeles Times, Feb. 8, 2012 — “The American Redoubt, where survivalists plan to survive: It lies in the rural high country of Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, eastern Washington and Oregon. For a growing number of people, it’s the designated point of retreat when the American economy hits the fan. When banks fail, the government declares martial law, the power grid goes down. When warming oceans flood the coasts and a resurgent Russia takes out targets on the Eastern Seaboard. Though white separatists for years have called for a racial homeland in the inland Pacific Northwest, an even bigger movement of survivalists, Christian fundamentalists and political doomsayers is fueling the idea of a defensible retreat in the high country west of the Rockies.”

I was inspired to run again, in the general election as a write-in candidate, because I could not simply sit back and accept the flawed leadership that currently exists in the Sheriff’s Office. I want to develop programs that can better serve and protect the citizens of Bonner County including a School Resource Officer Program, more thorough investigation of property crimes, stricter surveillance and conviction of drug offenders, and a Citizens’ Academy. I am committed to bringing back integrity, professionalism, sound ethics, and professionalism to the Sheriff’s Office.

Why we removed Democrat Party organizer

Bonner and Boundary County Democrats teamed with the Idaho Democratic Party to hire a young Brigham Young University student who has an active interest in how government works and the election process. He was hired for three months as a party organizer. His first task was to identify people in our area who believe in principles of the Democratic Party. Removing our party organizer was something we definitely did not want to do. He was and would have been an important part of our campaign. He was removed when campaigns were moving to persuade voters to support our candidates and to vote. North Idaho Democrats run ethical campaigns. We respect the electoral process; play fairly and by the rules. We do not resort to dirty tricks and intimidation. We will speak out if they occur.
